Tagging for 2008

Members of Council have spent much time and effort trying to generate the 'best' solution for members. Despite our efforts, we will not be able to provide a Society tag which has a UK number in 2008.

Thus, as in 2007, members will have 2 options, one involving tattooing and one involving a Society tag without a UK number. In both cases, the ewe lamb should be double-tagged with 2 Defra-approved tags containing the UK information and also the animal's individual number, the year number (08) and the breeder's flock number. In addition:

· Option 1 - the lamb's right ear should be tattooed with the breeder's flock number;

· Option 2 - the Society tag should be inserted in the lamb's right ear (a third tag).

Responding to the difficult trading in 2007, we have decided to provide the Society tag free again in 2008.
