Devon County Show 2011

The first West Country Show of this year kicked off at Devon County on 19/20/21 st May. It was a fine, sunny day this year, but with a nice breeze which kept handlers and sheep very comfortable.

There were some very large classes - 9 shearling ewes and 8 shearling rams, for example. The usual show enthusiasts were joined by new-comer Mr Chris Hawkins from Dunsford. Mick Wright was the judge. He commented that the quality of the sheep in front of him had improved even since the last time he judged at Devon and he was impressed by the standard and type of Lleyn at the Show.

Richard Turner had an excellent day out as his Aged Ram took the Breed Championship while his Ewe with twin lambs at foot took the Reserve Breed Championship.

Devon being one of the foremost sheep producing counties in the country, it was very gratifying to have so many interested visitors at the stand picking up information on the Breed, the West Country Club and the Society.
