Ewe Lamb Registration
Ewe lambs have to be registered in the year that they were born at a fee of £1.50 or €2.1 plus V.A.T (@ 17.5%) with a closing date for 2008 born lambs of 31st December
The Society rules state that ewe lambs must either be tattooed with the breeder's flock number or tagged with a Society tag (supplied free of charge at registration) in the right ear. Society tags will be sent direct from Allflex to the breeder on registering.
It would be helpful if you could register your lambs as early in the year as you can, to spread the load on the Office.
Please note the following points when registering your Lleyn ewe lambs:
(a) Remember to answer the question whether you want a Society tag or not. If this box is left blank then I will not be ordering tags for you.
(b) Remember to write your CPH and UK/EI number on the form – failure to do this will result in delay in ordering your tags.
(c) You must list the lambs in numerical order.
(d) The column ‘Tad/Sire’ is an optional column – you can leave this blank but remember to include the details of the rams used during Autumn 2007 in the boxes at the bottom of the form.
(e) The last date to register lambs born in 2008 is 31st December, 2008.
For anyone selling ewes with lambs at foot this Spring, it might be worthwhile considering maximising the potential income by registering the lambs before sale. Read about the tagging requirements for 2008
What is needed to register Lleyn Ewe Lambs?
You can only register ewe lambs that have born from full registered pedigree parents i.e. both male and female. You are advised to keep records of which ewe was mated with each ram although the Society requirements for ewe lamb registration does not demand which specific ram served the ewe but it is necessary to state what rams were used on your ewes when the application for ewe lamb registration is made.
When lambs are born you are advised to record the sex of the lamb, litter size, sire and tag number as this information will be required in the event of registering a ram lamb.
With regard to numbering your lambs (male or female) you should be aware of the current DEFRA tagging regulations and number your lambs accordingly. Please note that for Society management purposes you can start numbering your lambs from 001 each year prefixed by the last two numbers of the current year e.g. 07 269. DEFRA regulations require that all lambs born be numbered sequentially from one year to the next i.e. if the last lamb born in 2006 was 1288 then the first lamb born in 2007 must be 1289. The Society however advises members that the same number be utilised for both DEFRA and Society management purposes to avoid the confusion of having two numbers for the same animal but you do have a choice!
The Society recommends that you take every care when inserting your ear tags in accordance with the guidelines that has been produced.
