8 th Annual Lleyn Sheep Society Sale Report
Wednesday 27 th August 2008
The 8 th Official West Country Sale of Lleyn sheep was held at Exeter Livestock Centre on behalf of the Lleyn Sheep Society on Wednesday 27 th August 2008 and conducted by Exeter Market Auctioneers. The sale attracted a larger entry than recent years of 1240 sheep.
The trade was variable but generally improved on last year's with a 96% clearance on the Yearling and Older Ewes with the average for the Yearling Ewes up £6.50 and the average for the Senior Ewes up £11.00. The demand for Ewe Lambs was disappointing with only 60% clearance. However, the average was up £9 on last year with the best Ewe Lambs in keen demand but smaller & plainer sorts harder to place.

The demand for rams was very strong with only five of the 56 forward remaining unsold.
Top price of the day was 2800 gns.(£2940) for an ARR/ARR 2007 born ram (073229) from
E & D Jones of Machynlleth which was sold to Mr Charles Phillips of the Barrington Estate, Burford , after much spirited bidding from several different bidders.
