Ram Names
There is a section on the ram registration form for naming
your rams. This is optional. For all rams born in 2011 the name must begin with A. So that’s Alberts, Arthurs, Aardvarks etc
You can be as creative as you like
with a name not to be forgotten.

Scrapie Monitoring Scheme

Ruthin Sale
An exciting day was had by all at Ruthin this year with top prices flying out all day. Shearling ewes saw an impressive increase of £35.86 on the 2010 average with ewe lambs up £21.24. Rams also had an extremely confident day with the average up £163.96 on the year. [More]

South West Club Open Day
Informative and really friendly' - the feelings of one visitor to this year's West Country Lleyn Sheep Breeders Club Open Day event at Fordhayes Farm, Knowle, near Crediton. Over 80 farmers (from places as far apart as West Cornwall and East Sussex !) gathered at Fordhayes on Sunday 31 st July to hear about the system used at Fordhayes and learn more about Lleyn sheep.[More]

Great Yorkshire Show 2011
A fine day with the rain kept away. An improved entry of sheep was seen this year, with seven exhibitors turning out sheep. GREAT YORKSHIRE SHOW
The Great Yorkshire Show is nearly here.  The Lleyn judging will take place at 2pm on Tuesday 12 th July.  Please come and join us down there followed by a drink and nibbles after within the sheep lines.

HIGH ENTRY AT RWS
There are 150 entries of Lleyn sheep at this year's Royal Welsh Show.  The breakdown is as follows; 19 rams, 28 shearling rams, 23 ram lambs, 22 ewes, 35 shearling ewes and 23 ewe lambs.  Come and see for yourself at 9am on Monday 18 th July.

David Knowles, a well known Lleyn sheep breeder from New Hutton, Kendal has been announced as the judge for the Lleyn sheep at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, 12th – 14th July 2011.[More]

Royal Highland Show 2011
There were some strong classes put forward in front of judge David Alexander with some variation to pick through. Classes saw entries of 10 to 12 with a dedicated audience around the ring at all times. South West Sheep
South West Sheep 2011 was held on Tuesday 14th June, There was much interest shown in crossing, with increased interest shown in the Lleyn x Dorset . Again this was shown with Lleyn x Polled Dorsets on the Polled Dorset Society stand. There was also other Lleyn crosses present on several of the other stands.[More]

Increase in MV
In previous years, MV accreditation scheme testing identified evidence of MV infection in an average of three MV accredited flocks per year however in 2010 there were 13 breakdowns with MV. We have already identified two breakdowns in the first quarter of 2011 [More]

A very busy day was had by all in Hexham. The event was held on a hill farm on the outskirts of Hexham with an extremely good turnout of people. The mood of the day was very buoyant with people starting to look forward to the autumn sales [More]

Devon Show
The first West Country Show of this year kicked off at Devon County on 19/20/21 st May. It was a fine, sunny day this year, but with a nice breeze which kept handlers and sheep very comfortable.[More]

NSA WELSH SHEEP
The second outing for the Society promotional stand saw us in North Wales . The wet weather in the early part of the day helped to draw a large crowd and kept them inside for most of the morning. [More]

BALMORAL SHOW
The show season has kicked off for the Society's Promotional Stand. We have been in Belfast , Northern Ireland for the Balmoral Show. The largest agricultural event in Northern Ireland saw a constant flow of interest onto the stand from both established and potential customers. [More]

Moorside Top Flock
The Lleyn Breed winner of the EBLEX Improved Flock Awards for 2011 is the Moorside Flock, owned by Graham Shepherd who farms near Woodplumpton in Lancashire. Organised through the sheep Better Returns Programme, this award is presented to the performance recorded flock that has shown the most impressive improvement in genetic merit over a 12-month period, within the breed.
