North Sheep 2009

Lleyn Stand North Sheep 09

The atmosphere at North Sheep 2009 was filled with optimism for the sheep industry with an upbeat message been portrayed throughout the event. John Stott and his family provided a great venue for this bi-annual event which attracted over 9000 visitors.

Lleyn Stand

The quality of bred society stands was very high with some first class examples of quality sheep on display. With a bit of planning and help the Scottish & Borders Club put together a stand to attract the commercial sheep farmer's eye. The stand told the story of how the Lleyn could be used as a maternal mother producing pure bred lambs and flock replacements. The main focus however was the commercial crossing qualities of the Lleyn; on show were some fantastic Suffolk , Texel & Texel x Beltex lambs all of which caught the attention of the many visitors to the stand. To finish the story and the finale was a display of meat from a Lleyn & Charollais x Lleyn lambs wonderfully presented.

Many favourable comments were passed about the stand and the quality of sheep exhibited, even from other breed societies!! The stand was busy throughout the day and hopefully we caught the eye of some the regions sheep farmers that might take on our advice "try a few to see if you like them and they perform to your expectations"

The Lleyn Society stand was awarded 3rd prize in the Best Stand Competition with the Rough Fells taking 2nd & Charollais winning.

Texel Lambs North Sheep

Thanks must go to the sheep providers J & R Geldard & family, Peter & David Knowles & HM Dugdale & Son. Plumgarths farm shop for butching & displaying the meat and all club members that helped in any way, the saying "many hands make light work" definitely was applicable here.
