NSA - Winter Fair, Melton Mowbray

Friday 27th January 2012

The Society stand was present at this new N.S.A. event to be held every two years at Melton Mowbray Livestock Market.

This is a sheep area heavily populated with the Mule and Suffolk cross. It was a great place to talk to potential new breeders. For the main of the day I saw a strong interest in the breed and in particular the new sale the Society is holding at Bakewell this year.

Graham Matravers flock 519 supplied a pen of 6 pure bred wether lambs from the finishing field. Thank you to Graham they were a great advert for the breed proving that you can get size and weight from the pure bred Lleyn.

Cyfieithiad CymraegWelsh Welcome
Lleyn sheep originate from the Lleyn peninsula in Wales and until recently were a relatively unfamiliar breed of sheep in the UK.
Over the past 10 years the Lleyn breed has caught the eye of many farmers, and now Lleyn sheep can be found almost all over Britain & Ireland. Farmers soon find that the Lleyn is an ideal ewe, quiet in nature, prolific, has great maternal instincts, milky & will not eat you out of house and home. The Lleyn fits in to many situations and its versatility suits both lowland and upland grazing.
