A Hat Trick for Messrs. E. & D. Jones!
Ram trade was once again strong at the third pedigree Lleyn Sheep Society sale of the 2008 season, held at Ross-on-Wye on Thursday 4 th September. The top priced animal was a shearling ram, bred by Messrs. E. & D. Jones, which sold to Mrs. M. Hendy of Hillbrow Farm, Laverton, Bath for 3,400gns.
This continued success is now three out of three for Messrs. E. & D. Jones, of Lluest Wen, Commins Coch, Machynlleth, who have achieved top prices with their homebred rams at all the Lleyn Sheep Society Sales in 2008, in Exeter (£2940 on 27/08/08), Ruthin (£4200 on 01/09/08) and now Ross-on-Wye (£3570 on 04/09/08).
The rest of the ram auction went well, averaging £598.50, up £73 on 2006 prices.
Trade for older ewes and shearlings was fair, with prices averaging £68 and £83 respectively. A pen of quality shearlings, bred by WW & JA McCurdie, topped the market at £130 apiece, selling to C Elliott, Birdwood Farm, Birdwood, Gloucester .
Over 2500 females were entered, with many pedigree registered ewes from high health status flocks sold at commercial prices. If you are looking to upgrade your commercial flock, and improve overall performance, now is the time to visit a pedigree Lleyn Sheep Society sale.
