The weekend kicked off for Council members with a formal meeting, late Friday afternoon. The evening then saw all members enjoy their evening meal in the hotel restaurant before convening to the bar for a catch up and night cap!
Saturday brought the rain but certainly did not dampen the spirits of the weekend. The four coaches arrived on time before taking the group around some narrow back roads of rural Devon. Some landmarks were hidden by the fog but never the less some beautiful scenery was seen. The group disembarked in Lynmouth for lunch. I am informed that the local public house was very good!
The afternoon saw a visit to Chilthorne farm the home of Chris & Alison Crudge, flock 1265. With the sun now shining members were able to walk around the fields and see ewes with the rams in action.
John Adams provided a display showing how Lleyn Gold has been working for his own flock as well as an example of how the Crudge’s are using it. All this was very kindly followed by traditional Devonshire cream teas which were a welcome treat.
The AGM took place that evening back at the hotel. This saw president Nia Williams and Vice President Wynne Davies re-elected. Wallace McCurdie stood down from Council after ten years. He was thanked for all his hard work over that time, as a popular member of Council his absence will be missed. Mrs Phyl Hale was elected on to take the vacant seat.
The following Presentations/announcements of awards were made:
H.E. Roberts Memorial Cup – awarded for the most points at three of the North Wales Shows – presented by Mrs Gwenda Roberts to Mr Wynne Davies
The Noel Baseley Memorial Show Points Cup – for the most points at three county/royal shows – presented by Mrs Patricia Baseley to Mr Wynne Davies

There was a presentation of certificates for those members who had been honoured to judge at one of the Royal Shows during 2015:
Royal Ulster Show – Dylan Jones
Royal Highland Show – Wallace McCurdie
Royal Welsh Show – Dewi Ellis
The results of the 2015 Photo Competition were announced. There had been a great entry of 126 photos for judges Ifor & Ann Jones to sort through. It was R & E Edwards Flock 1513 who came out as the champion. They have won £75 Mole Valley Farmers Vouchers.
The meeting was rounded off by Mr John Kingan giving the Vote of Thanks seconded by Mr Dewi Ellis.
Other formalities saw David Knowles elected for a third year as Society Chairman, Ifor Jones was elected to continue as Vice Chairman. Rhys Davis was once again elected as Treasurer.
The evening then saw 93 gather for the Annual Dinner. Great food and great company. The entertainment was provided by Russell Steer, Auctioneer at Exeter. With the clocks going back one hour there was much socialising done well into the night.
Sunday brought better weather, dry and sunny. The visit to the renowned herd of Red Rubies – North Devon Cattle was very enjoyable with two large trailers and a bike trailer taxiing the group around the fields. Some fantastic livestock was seen against a backdrop of very pretty autumn views. This was rounded off with a roast lamb sandwich and homemade cakes on the lawn.
Thank you to everyone who helped with the weekend from organising tours, hosting visits to making cakes.
