Sale at CCM Skipton Auction Mart – Thursday 2nd October

Finished on a high would be the way to describe the final Society Sale of 2014 held at Skipton Auction Mart.  The ring at Skipton is large but looked busy with potential customers throughout.

The highlights in the shearling ewes included TA & J Swinbank, Darlington selling five ewes at £190/head to Bankcroft & Co, Blackburn.  Local consigners, G & A Fort, Keighley sold three pens at £185/head to three different buyers; Holton Mill Farm, Oxford, J Kendall, Bishop Thornton & Bancroft Farms.  David Alexander who had travelled from Ayshire sold two pens at £182/head to Bondgate Farm, Lancaster & BG Partridge, Keighley.

In the ewe lambs it was the first pen into the ring, the second prize pen from Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk that topped the section.  They sold for £140/head to J Martland, Scarisbrick.  Farmstock sold another pen of 15 lambs for £125/head to S Hope, Buckinghampshire.  P Knowles, Kendal sold the third prize pen for £120/head to J Wainwright, Tosside.  WJ & DJ Williams, Pwllheli sold one of his pens at £120/head to M Kinnes, Driffield.

There were many pens suitable for commercial purchasers with shearling ewes being sold from £140 to £175/head depending on type and skins.  Many ewe lambs would be considered running lambs are were being purchased from £80 to £90/head

Of the rams forward there were only two unsold.  E & D Jones from Machylleth sold the top priced ram.  This Lluest ram is sired by Lluest Abbra Cadabra and out of a homebred Lluest ewe.  At 900gns he joins C Leckonby, from York.  The champion Brightonhouse Classy from T & B Fort, Keighley sold for 800gns to D & SK Crane, Thirsk.  Sired by a H & M Dugdale ram he is out of a homebred ewe.  AW Davies, Pwllheli sold Bronallt Caleb for 700gns to MR Proudley, Doncaster.  WJ & DJ Williams sold Tacho Carneddau for 700gns to C Leckonby, York.
