Lleyn Sheep Society – Annual Sale at Carmarthen Livestock Mart – Thursday 15th September 2016

There was plenty of demand at Carmarthen shown for the shearling ewes and ewe lambs fit for tupping.  Running lambs were harder to find homes with Rams seeing a high clearance.

The aged ewes met a strong demand with S Lewis, Johnston selling a pen of five three year olds for £125/head to AM James, Crosshands.  The same vendor sold two year olds for £115 to T Evans, Llanddarog.

The shearling ewes saw several highlights including two pens selling for £205/head. First saw WJ & DJ Williams, Pwllheli sell a pen of five which had been placed second in the show to Wood Farm Partners, Haverfordwest.  Next E & D Jones, Machllynth sold a pen of ten to K Thomas, Newcastle Emlyn.  HM Wells, Cardigan sold the third prize pen for £190/head to R Marshall, Trevaughan.  The first prize pen from E & L Thomas, St Clears sold for £180/head to K Thomas. There was a 98% clearance in this section.

It was DW & CF Morris, St Clears who topped the ewe lamb section with the second prized pen which sold for £140/head to J & H Purcell, Newcastle Emlyn.  Messrs Morris also sold a pen for £120/head to Toddingtons Ltd, Haverfordwest.  The first prize pen from D & B Vaughan, Tufton sold for £125/head to J & H Pucell.

The ram section saw a strong clearance with 22 of the 27 forward sold.  The champion ram from WJ & DJ Williams, Pwllheli realised the top price of 700gns.  Tacho Excite was bred from a Hamish Goldie Ram, he sold to ST Morris, Hay on Wye.  Next at 550gns was the second prize ram from E & D Jones.  Lluest Editor is sired by Wraycastle Ben and he sold to D James, Llandybie.  Colin Price, Brecon sold Felindre Elijah, sired by a Dugdale ram for 450gns to DG Rees, Llanarth.
