Lleyn Sheep Society – Annual Sale at Skipton Auction Mart – Thursday 29th September 2016

The final Society sale of 2016 finished on a buoyant note with many new buyers around the ring looking for both breeding females and rams.  The buyers were selective, opting for well grown tidy skinned sheep although the smaller/younger ewe lambs could find homes at above store market prices.

The shearling ewe section saw two pens realise £155/head.  First G & A Fort, Keighley sold a pen of five to P Hibbert, Bolton.  JA & R Geldard & Sons, Kendal sold twelve to S & G Gill, Barnard Castle.  Messrs Fort also sold at pen for £152/head to A Nicholson, Beverley.  Whilst DCS Alexander, Ayrshire sold a pen of twelve for £152/head to N Speake, Oakworth.  The third prize pen from MJA & SIJ Shields, Otley sold for £150/head to M Kinnes, Driffield.

The ewe lamb section was once again topped by B Walling – Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk with the first prize pen which sold for £115/head to M Kinnes, Driffield.  WJ & DJ Williams, Pwllheli sold the second prize pen at £100/head to G & I Morton & Sons, York.  P Knowles, Kendal sold a pen of five to regular buyer Janet Sheard, Huddersfield.

The top price in the ram section was realised by the champion Fort Energizer, from T & B Fort, Keighley.  Sired by Lochar Clansman he sold for 1000gns to breeder T Riley, Hebden Bridge.  AW Davies, Pwllheli sold the third prize ram, Bronallt Emyr for 650gns.  Sired by a Lluest Ram, he is out of a homebred ewe.  He was purchased by MJA & SIJ Shields, Otley.  The second prize ram from G & A Fort, Keighley, Brightonhouse Empower sired by a Goldie ram made 600gns when purchased by P Hibbert, Bolton.
