Celebrating 50 Years of the Lleyn Sheep Society in 2020

Lleyn Sheep Society – Annual Sale at Welshpool Mart – Saturday 24th September 2016

There was a strong clearance in the aged ewe section at Welshpool with every pen finding a home.  K.E. Griffiths, Felindre topped the section with 5 two year old ewes selling for £132/head to CR Pryce, Welshpool.  J & H Lloyd Francis, Llanfaian sold 12 two year olds for £130/head to EW Hughes, Llanbedr.  J & R Davies, Welshpool sold 10 three year olds for £128/head to D Costelloe, Bletchley.

The shearling ewe section was topped by DN Bennett & Sons, Meifod who sold their 2nd prize pen of for £320/head to RH Lewis, Neathe.  Next came G & A Fort who had travelled from West Yorkshire.  They sold the 1st prize pen for £240/head to the same buyer.  JA & R Geldard & Sons sold for £215/head to P & S Eckett, Sturminster.  The third prize pen from WJ & DJ Williams, Pwllheli sold for £210/head to RH Lewis, Neath.  The non MVA section saw RO Rees, Llanbrynmair sell for £130/head.

In the ewe lamb section it was the first prized pen from WJ & DJ Williams which topped the prices.  E Morris, Prestigne paid £150/head for this pen.  Next J2 Farming, Oswestry sold 10 lambs for £120/head to TA Irwin & Son, Umberleigh.  WJ & DJ Williams sold another pen at £105/head to A Jones, Pwllheli.  C Price, Brecon, WG & AF Lewis, Montgomery and RV & GE Jones, Wrexham all sold pens for £100/head.

The champion ram, Fort Ever Ready from T & B Fort, Keighley realised the highest price of 2100gns when selling to TG Evans, Newtown.  This shearling ram was sired by Lochar Clansman out of a homebred ewe.  Next JA & R Geldard & Sons, Kendal sold Wraycastle Edric by a Laga ram for 1180gns to D Knowles, New Hutton.  Lionel Organ, Llangeler, sold Southam Elderado by Lochar Braveheart for 1020gns to DW & CF Morris, St Clears.
