Annual Show & Sale at Stirling Livestock Market (UA)

Today’s sale saw a good clearance across the board.  With a solid commercial customer base for the females and plenty of interest in the rams forward. 

The shearling ewes saw a top of £250/head from the pen of the pre-sale judge H Gillan, Cupar.  He sold this stylish pen to WG Henderson, Stonehaven.  Next the Goldie Family at Orchard Lleyn, Dumfries sold at pen at £210/head to C Gammage, Lanark.  There were four pens hit the £200/head mark, these came from Orchard Lleyn, Laga Farms, Orkney, B & J Hill, Kirriemuir and JK Goldie, Dumfries.  There was a run of commercial type sheep sold at £170-£180.

Ewe lambs saw excitement with those pens picked out selling well.  Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk sold the champion pen of five for £180/head to AN Ritchie on behalf of Barbreck Farm, Lochgilphead.  Again, H Gillan was in the highlights selling two pens at £160/head to R & M Osborne, Angus and another pen to C Gammage, Lanark.  Other pens including a ring full of 26 head from M Calderwood, Rosneath sold for £120/head.

Rams sold exceptionally well with only one failing to find a new home.  Laga Farms, Orkney topped the trade selling a Lagas (00971/2014513) sired by a homebred ram for 1200gns to breeders C & C Crawford, Peterhead.  The Davidson Family from Orkney sold a Skaill ram (01674/2004595) sired by a Whitcastles for 1000gns to breeder M Calderwood, Rosneath.  Laga Farms had the next two top prices with a Bennett sired ram selling for 900gns to JS Shaw, Dunfermline and a Williams sired ram selling for 850gns to GW & KP Lawrie, Angus.  Through the middle of the sale rams were easily changing hands for 600-700gns.  Nothing sold for less than 350gns.
