2025 Carlisle Sale Report

Vendors enjoyed a buoyant trade at the Lleyn Sheep Society’s annual sale of rams and

females at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, where prices soared to 10,000gns for Bardspark Notorious (01836/2403253) from D & B Henderson, Nether Toucks, Stonehaven. Sired by a ram from Farmstock Genetics (00983/2218592) which was purchased here for 1800gns, he was knocked down to M & R Cursiter, Arwick, Evie, Orkney.

I Walling, Over Whitlaw Bungalow, Selkirk secured the next top bid in the rams at 4500gns for his Royal Highland Show male champion, Eildon Ninja (00983/2423494). Sired by stock ram (00333/2206585) and out of a home-bred ewe, he sold to JA & R Geldard & Sons, Low Foulshaw Farm, Kendal.

Another from the same home, Eildon Nailer (00983/2423482) secured 3500gns. Sired by (00599/2011762), he was snapped up by J Kingan, Laneside Farm, Dumfriesshire.

Just behind on 4000gns was the Laga ram (00971/2420351). Sired by a home-bred stock ram that is performing very well for the flock, he was purchased by fellow resident, I Slater, Orkney.

C Davidson, Skaill Farm, Orkney sold his pen leader, Skaill Ness (01674/2406001) for 3000gns. Backed by home-bred genetics on both sides, with his sire being (01674/2205189), he was bought by G & A Fort, Steeton, West Yorkshire.

Matching that 3000gns bid was Laga Farms with their Laga ram (00971/2419995). Sired by the farm’s favourite home-bred stock ram (00971/1913171), he was knocked down to H & M Dugdale, Settle, North Yorkshire.

 

Shearling ewes reached heights of £350 for the second prize pen of 5 from H Goldie, South Bowerhouses, Dumfries. These girls were snapped up by South Dissington Farms, Hexham.

Farmstock Genetics sold their leading pen of 5 for £320 per head. These girls caught the eye of buyer, C Timm, West Farm, Pickering.

C Davidson was next in the trade stakes with a pen of 6 making £310 per head. Forking out the money to buy these girls was I Slater, Orkney, whilst H M Jenkinson matched that price with a pen of 5 selling to C Timm.

Five lots of shearling ewes then reached £300 per head, the first coming for the reserve champion pen of females and first prize pen of shearling ewes from J Kingan. They sold to South Dissington Farms.

The same buyer then purchased another three lots from H Goldie at £300 per head for pens of 5 shearling ewes, whilst the first prize individual shearling ewe from Farmstock Genetics went under the hammer at £300 and was sold to Harelaw Farm, Kilbarchan.

 

Ewe lambs secured a top price of £240 per head for the first prize pen of 5 and champion females from Farmstock Genetics. These girls found a new home with A G Selway, Dorset.

I Walling secured £190 per head for a pen of 5, which headed home with Myerscough College, Bilsborrow.

WJ & DJ Williams, Bodtacho, Gwynedd landed a top price of £175 per head for his pen leaders, which were sold to Harelaw Farm, whilst a pen of 5 from G H Blakey attained £170 per head when selling to R Howard, Low Longmire Farm, Oxen Park.

W Roobottom, Cowley Hill Farm, Staffordshire secured £165 per head for a pen of 5. Managing to secure these girls was Myerscough College.
