2025 Roscommon Sale Report
Prices for Lleyn sheep were sky high at the Society's annual Roscommon sale, where shearling ewes reached a top price of €500 for the 4th prize individual ewe from A McDonald, Ormston House, Co. Offaly. Managing to secure this girl was K Gill.
A McDonald was back in the money, attaining €490 on two occasions and €480 for pens of five shearling ewes, including the second prize pen from the pre-sale show. These girls were knocked down to Lambay Estate, L Jones and K Gill, respectively.
D Beattie, Dillagh, Co. Cavan sold his second prize individual shearling ewe for €470, which was purchased by J McLoughlin.
Matching that €470 price tag was P Jennings, Ballyroe, Co. Offaly, with his 4th prize pen of five shearling ewes. These girls caught the attention of buyer, P Bobbett.
Leading the ewe lamb trade was B Matthews, Quarrymount House, who sold his second prize pen of five for €270 to P Williams.
Next best at €260 was P Bobbett, with this pen of five being snapped up by C Dowling. The same buyer also forked out €240 per head for the first prize pen of five ewe lambs again from P Bobbett.
Also attaining €240 per head was K O'Donnell, Carromore Hill, Co. Mayo, who landed the third prize award in the pre-sale show for his lambs, which were purchased by P Williams.
Close behind on €220 per head was H Reilly, Co. Sligo, with their pen of five being bought by T Graham, whilst E Barrett secured €210 per head for a pen of five which sold to A McDonald.
Rams reached €3000 for Laughil Nimbus (02951/2402895). Sired by stock ram (01694/2104584), this ram is no stranger to success having been crowned the All Ireland Champion at Tullamore Show this year. He was purchased by J F Godfrey.
D Oliver's pen leader, Cooley Nuclear (01850/243728G) was next in the trade stakes making €1720. Standing second in the pre-sale show, this boy is sired by stock ram (01852/2203702) and out of a Lluest Discovery- bred ewe. He was knocked down to D Beattie.
Close behind on €1600 was Ormston Nirvana (01852/2404170) from A McDonald. Standing first in the pre-sale show, he is sired by the Lluest stock ram (00599/2112964), he was sold to P Jennings.
D Oliver was back in the money attaining €1520 for Cooley Night Rider (01850/243813G). This ram stood supreme champion at Dundalk Show this year and is backed by champion genetics, sired by stock ram (01312/2005620) whilst his dam stood champion shearling at Ballymena in 2022. He was purchased by D Dunne.
Just behind on €1500 was D Beattie's Dillagh Nashville (02419/2403226). Sired by (01879/209358J), he headed home with B Matthews.
