WEST COUNTRY LLEYN BREEDERS CLUB
Sunday 9th August - Michelle and Howard Moore Flock 2767, 2.30pm
Beaples Hill Farm, Knowstone, South Molton, Devon EX36 4RZ
134 acres of permanent pasture runs from 650 to 900ft with beautiful views over Exmoor. Michelle and Howard used to have a very good flock of crossbred sheep, selling up to 1.8 lambs a ewe, but then disaster struck when it was found they had Maedi Visna. After the trauma of the resultant cull, the Moores re-stocked with accredited Lleyn and they now have 500 ewes (scanning at 210%) and 120 ewe lambs. 30 Lleyn & Texel shearling rams are reared and all lambs are finished off the farm. The Open Day will focus on the importance of MV accreditation, regular checking for 'iceberg diseases' and the Moores' excellent management and recording systems.
