Lleyn Sheep Society Sale at Roscommon Mart 2018

Todays sale was a day where buyers were there seeking quality.  Chosen pens were picked out with competition bidding to take them home. 

The shearling ewes saw the champion pen from Alan McDonald, Killeigh top the section when selling for €305/head (£274) to James Croke, Fethard.  Mr McDoanld also sold a pen at €240/head (£216) to Fergal Leonard, Tullamore and a pen at €200/head (£180) to Gordon Johnston, Tyrellspass.  L & S McCrossan, Letterkenny sold a pen for €207/head (£186) to James Croke.  Brian Mathews, Killeigh sold the second prize pen for €198/head (£178) to Fergal Leonard.  The third prize pen from Clive & Hazel Long, Lifford sold for €190/head (£171).

The ewe lamb trade was supported by buyers looking for numbers.  The top priced came from C & H Long when they sold for €135/head (£121) to Brendan McGovern, Belturbet.  The first prize pen from M Harney, Eadestown sold for €127/head (£114) to Kenneth O’Donnell, Ballina.  J Vance from Ballintra sold for €126/head (£113) to John P Kilmartin, Killucan.

Again, buyers were able to be selective.  J Vance, Ballintra sold the Champion Ram for the days top price of €900 (£810).A hombred Strongs Ram (01879/147273F), he is sired by Quarrymount Dictator from Brian Matthews.  Havibng being shown during the summer he had won overall champion at Bonnyconlon Show.  He was purchased by Pat Bobbett, Lusk Village.  L & S McCrossan, Letterkenny sold Granville (02402/170090J) sired by Knockmult Daire from Russell Milne for €610 to John F Godfrey, Kilgarven.  Brian Mathews, Killeigh sold Quarrymount Giga (01879/178474) sired by AW Hughes ram for €540 to Orla Barry, Duncormick.
