With averages well up across the board the majority of sheep forward found new homes. The senior ewes set the scene when N Hodgetts, Whittingham sold two year olds for £180/head to DC Winney & Co, Hereford. Messrs Hodgetts sold five year olds for £135/head to R Warner & Son, Tirley.
The shearling ewes saw 32 pens realise over £200 with two pens topping at £240. First G & A Fort, Keighley sold a pen of five to G Gore, Brecon. D Steen, Moffat followed through later and sold his pen of eight to AP James, Bridgenorth. JA & R Geldard & Sons, Kendal sold the second prize pen at £235/head to A & R Golledge, Hardwicke. HM Wells, Cardigan sold five for £230/head to N Hodgetts, Whittington. The first prize pen from J Hamer, Oswestry sold for £215/head and were bought by Glympton Farm Estates, Oxford. Only a couple of pens returned home with some missing early on in the ring but finding buyers outside later in the day. Stronger sheep ready to go on and pens of evenly sorted sheep were picked for the better prices. Away from the top pens some smaller sheep could be taken home for £150-160 with the majority of commercial types £170 – 195.
Ewe lambs saw the spark coming from the pen of Mr & Mrs C Price, Brecon. Their first two pens totalling 15 head realised £200/head whilst their third pen caught attention and sold for £220/head. All 20 lambs were purchased by S & V Radcliffe, Gower. RHS Turner, Honiton sold his pen for £160/head to A & R Golledge, Hardwicke. AW Davies, Pwllheli sold a pen of five for £160/head to N & J Coles, Landovery. The first prize pen from Manor Farm East Marden, Chichester were first into the ring and although were passed in the ring, AG Selway, Dorset was the successful purchaser later in the day at £140/head. Small younger lambs were harder to place but stronger tupping lambs saw plenty of bidding. The buoyant prime lamb market seeing lambs changing hands from £120/head plus.
The rams saw plenty of demand with a strong show of breeders and commercial rams and buyers around the ring until the end. With an average up £192 on the year all except eight found new homes. The highlight came from the pen of JA & R Geldard & Sons with a Wraycastle ram (00621/2020493) sired by Netherton Fearless, he was purchased by breeder HM Wells, Cardigan for 2600gns. Next saw C Lewis, Caersws sell Brynowen Jackpot (001159/2004268) sired by Pantyrthoad Howard for 2500gns to RHS Turner, Honiton. Messrs Geldard sold Wraycastle (00621/2020406) sired by a homebred ram for 2200gns to E & D Jones, Machynlleth. E & D Jones sold a Lluest ram (00599/2012188) sired by Brightonhouse Gold Card for 2200gns to Penrice Castle Estates, Gower. L Organ, Llandysul sold Southam Jackpot (00306/2003189) for 2000gns to also to Penrice Castle Estates. 13 rams changed hands for over 1000gns with many rams selling for 400-700gns.
